Let no one try to tell me that this is a throwaway Mc because he has a remarkable flow, you notice it right away. The confident thug rapper who knows how to really hit the microphone with a devastating impact releases his third work; the particularity is that after the success he had with his "The Beautiful Struggle" where there were touching moments of rap with Mary J. Blige, Talib makes a fleeting appearance with an independent label to remind us that he is still an Underground guy from the streets of Brooklyn where you breathe Hip-hop as soon as you step out of the house. Therefore, his changes in style are due solely to inner growth as an artist not imposed by the mainstream.
Don't come and tell Talib Kweli this bullshit! He collaborates with MF Doom and the mighty Mos Def, dedicates the fourth and best track, along with "Who Got It," to Lauryn Hill, he is behind the whole production of straight-kick-drum-pseudo-afro-underground beats à la Afrika Bambataa which sound very much in sync with his voice which gets exalted. By which I mean that the Muslim Talib Kweli is a passing Mc who won’t remain in history and won’t imprint the hearts of any rap fanatic who in ten years will come looking for him, but the guy, as cocky as the one who works for the SDA and rings your bell in the morning and you want to spit in his face, can blow the wind of New York streets into your home because he's a step above; at least until you find him annoying or think that rap is only sex violence guns... since this is a genre where after six months someone better than the previous one has already arrived. However, it's nice and some parts are really striking.
