 doiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiin...

no, I haven't switched languages, I've been captivated by the album of a sublime Japanese guitarist, one Taku Sugimoto, who after universally recognized masterpieces has begun his initiation rite towards non-music: a sound, 15 minutes of silence, another sound, 34 minutes of silence... "Opposite" is part of this collection..

This is masochistic music presented here: alien, spatial, disconcerting: the acoustic guitar is clear, as if it touches the listener's soul. Doiiiin...doiiin...silence...doiiin...doiiin...silence. And so it goes for 43 minutes of insane madness: a spatialist record, somewhat like Lucio Fontana's paintings, which reproduced masterpieces with the simple act of cutting a canvas, simply, only Sugimoto cuts us: that guitar string so grotesque and grim is as if it were part of us. You feel your heart bleed, die.

Sublime disc for sure, but by the thirtieth minute, you're already falling asleep...

Summary by Bot

Taku Sugimoto's 'Opposite' blends sparse guitar sounds with lengthy silences, creating a spatial and alien listening experience. The album is described as disconcerting and masochistic, pushing the boundaries of traditional music. While its clear acoustic guitar moments touch the soul, extended silences may lead listeners to fatigue by the halfway point. This work challenges and redefines musical expectations.

Takuya Sugimoto

Japanese guitarist noted for extremely sparse, silence-focused experimental recordings such as Opposite.
