It's March 26, 2002, when "Tell All Your Friends," the debut full-length by Taking Back Sunday, is released in American stores by Victory Records, an album that represents both the beginning and the pinnacle of the quintet from Amityville.
It’s difficult to define its genre, as it contains a perfect mix of emo rock, pop, punk, and hints of melodic hardcore.
On the solid rhythmic foundations built by the charming guitars of Eddie Reyes and John Nolan and the often lively drumming of Mark 'O Connell, shine the splendid duets between the two singers Adam Lazzara and John Nolan, which to this day many bands (including Taking Back Sunday themselves) try to emulate.
An album that is homogeneous yet offers remarkable variety, ranging from the softer pop/rock of "Bike Scene" (complete with a gentle female voice on a magnificent bed of guitars), to the captivating rhythm of "Cute Without The E (Cut From The Team)" (featuring a killer chorus), to the melodic emocore of "The Blue Channel", which also features an appreciable scream by John Nolan.
I'll conclude with a recommendation: listen to at least one of these ten tracks and let yourself be enchanted by the intertwining of the two singers’ incredible voices, you won't regret it.
