In times when American cinema seems to be at a standstill, obsessed with continuously releasing remakes (especially horror films from the East, but also small underground or independent Western cults like "Funny Games" by Michael Haneke), there is an attempt to revive less known or unnoticed works and slightly twist their plots, seeking more inspiration and a broader narrative freedom.
Few know, in fact, that the upcoming and much-talked-about "Denti" is actually a sort of remake of this absurd, delirious Japanese film, known both as "Killer Pussy" and "Sexual Parasite". The story doesn’t perfectly align, but the anomalous killer and certain inventions make it clear that the director was inspired by this bad taste medium-length film. Let’s admit it: if "Killer Pussy" had never been made, we would have never seen "Denti".
Who knows, then, if with the release of this American version in cinemas, the small cult of Japanese trash will be distributed in Europe as well!
Despite the ingenious plot and surreal killer, this is NOT a masterpiece. Don’t expect to find deep explanations about life and death, metaphors, or intelligent and innovative shots that are usually the cornerstone of Eastern films. Usually, other horror films from the Land of the Rising Sun play with the viewer’s psychology and even the splatter ones ("Suicide Club", "Naked Blood", "Bloody Reunion") carry a philosophical and/or metaphorical explanation of what appears on screen.
"Killer Pussy" is an exception.
More trashy than a Lino Banfi movie, more obscene than any Tinto Brass film, more violent than the bloodiest Fulci horror, this medium-length film plays on 50% sex and 50% violence.
The story is very simple but at the same time brilliant: a parasite, a virus infects an explorer in a forest through, no less, the peach (!). Shortly after, in the same location, a group of teenagers decides to spend a weekend filled with sex and alcohol.
Shot digitally, the film doesn’t aim to delve into character depth, focusing instead on their physical aspect, so much so that they seem to come out of an hentai comic (the girls have disarming busts... and to think that many deride the fact that Japanese girls are usually flat as boards... this is living proof we are wrong).
In mere seconds, beer and vodka are flowing like rivers. To the hammering rhythm of loud house music, the girls unleash and, of course, strip under the excited gaze of the sneaky guys.
Soon, however, the party is bound to be interrupted: one of the damsels decides to take a hot bath, but you’ll never guess who she finds in the bathtub!
Senseless splatter, unusual... idiocy galore, grotesque finds, murderous cock-eating vaginas. All of this and more in a film where nothing is as it seems. Little monsters, led by visibly obvious nylon threads, mercilessly strike the unfortunate male who remained hypnotized by the truly extraordinary properties of the protagonists.
The camera has no shame, capturing everything with extreme calm, even going as far as to record inside the girls' bodies. Reaching up to the Fallopian tubes, showing us the ongoing genital mutation of the aforementioned, up to an inevitably ambiguous and naughty ending.
Pure entertainment basically, enjoyable and in bad taste at the same time.
