"Can you feel my heartbeat when I'm close to you?" An easy phrase for an equally simple group. The French Tahiti 80 summarize in their name what they want to be, exotic and somewhat retro. From the transalpine land that created Daft Punk and Air, this kind of music was certainly not expected, and this is a merit of originality that should be attributed to the band, thus only limited by their geographical origin. As for everything else, I can add that they are pleasant to listen to, but that's all there is. Better then the Swedish Cardigans who at least had more flair (also great with covers, especially the Ironman one) and utterly unparalleled the Pulp of Jarvis Cocker—the man with the name of the c****—who created a genre out of the past, better than what Oasis have done. At a time when vintage seems to have taken hold like never before, this timeless album lacks the originality necessary to make it stand out. It's timeless and that's it. And as the only merit, it's a bit too little.
