THE REVIEW

It is common for debut bands to be markedly inspired by a select group of artists to define their own sound. The influences can be pronounced to the point of bordering on plagiarism, but in the best cases, they manage to find an effective and personal sonic path. This self-produced and excellently recorded CD by Sweet Violence finds a compromise between these two paths, though leaning towards the latter: the five tracks on the album manage to deliver to the listener a good amalgam of violent post-grunge sounds and personal instrumental solutions. The charged and powerful voice of singer Camilla (the remaining members are Elena on bass, Masi on guitar, and Pigio on drums) places them in riot-grrl territory (L7, Hole, Bikini Kill), and the intensity
conveyed is enviable for a debut group that still needs a bit more maturity.
In time, I am sure they will improve even more.
