The Profile

Surfer Blood is an American indie-rock band formed in West Palm Beach, Florida, in 2009. They broke out with the single “Swim” and debut album Astro Coast (2010), followed by Pythons (2013), 1000 Palms (2015), Snowdonia (2017), and Carefree Theatre (2020). Their sound blends surf-tinged guitars, pop melodies, and alt-rock grit.

Formed in West Palm Beach, Florida (2009). Fronted by John Paul Pitts (vocals, guitar). Early acclaim centered on the single “Swim” and the album Astro Coast (2010). Subsequent albums include Pythons (2013), 1000 Palms (2015), Snowdonia (2017), and Carefree Theatre (2020). Guitarist Thomas Fekete was diagnosed with sarcoma and died in 2016. Style draws on surf-inspired guitar work, indie-pop hooks, and alternative rock influences.

Reviews praise Astro Coast’s tuneful indie-surf punch and call out highlights like Swim and Floating Vibes. Tarot Classics EP earns love for compact, catchy power‑pop and tracks like Miranda and I’m Not Ready. 1000 Palms is seen as less inspired, with strong textures but unresolved songwriting. Overall: catchy choruses, reverb guitars, and Florida sun with a few clouds.
