LA RECENSIONE

Emerging in Boston around the early '90s, the Supreme Dicks released only three albums since, as often happens with those who exiled themselves from the commercial circuit, they soon became a burden for their record label. "Emotional Plague" is the last of the three, and also their masterpiece.
It certainly represents one of the most revolutionary projects of the '90s, bringing forth an original language, unique and unmatched. But what is so special about these eleven songs? Well, that's where the mistake lies. These are not "songs" in the most traditional sense of the word, they are instrumental notes seemingly drawn at random, sounding "incorrect", almost always out of time, almost always without harmonic logic. The instruments seem to go each on their own, listless, sluggish, anemic. The singing, which is rarely present, seems like the whisper of a sleepwalker. The atmosphere is wonderfully dreamlike, nocturnal, sometimes a moving dream, sometimes a malignant nightmare, the elongated tails of the guitars (the real protagonists) resemble falling stars, and the flute sounds like the lament of a dispossessed person.
Everything contributes to creating a strongly hallucinated atmosphere, without being necessarily psychedelic, as avant-garde and ambient elements are encountered, combined like never before. The album, being fundamentally a concept, should be listened to in its entirety, as the tracks, not being fundamentally tracks, cannot be listened to separately.

After traveling for an hour in the fantastic world of "Emotional Plague", you will experience that sense of disorientation and surprise that one feels as a child when discovering things. Thus, you will be surprised to find yourself an adult.
