British rock band formed by Rick Davies and Roger Hodgson; best known for mid-1970s to late-1970s albums blending progressive elements and polished pop.

Formed by Rick Davies and Roger Hodgson in 1969. Their biggest commercial success was Breakfast in America (1979). Roger Hodgson left the band in 1983. Key long-term members included Rick Davies, Roger Hodgson, John Helliwell, Dougie Thomson and Bob C. Benberg.

DeBaser reviews celebrate Supertramp's 1974–1979 peak (Crime of the Century, Even in the Quietest Moments..., Breakfast in America) while noting a decline in later albums. Reviewers praise distinctive piano work, falsettos and polished production but find post‑Hodgson records uneven.

For:fans of 1970s progressive-pop and classic pop/rock, listeners who appreciate piano-driven songwriting and polished arrangements

Rarely had an album contained so many ideas and such good ones: in the end, it had to be admitted: "The Logical Song", "Take The Long Way Home", "Goodbye Stranger", and the others managed to perfectly condense a certain pompous rock made in the USA (but without ever exceeding) and certain bright British pop, all in a vaguely progressive key that tended to stretch the tracks and give space to the instruments... really good stuff: listen to it now, it still works!

The album is, therefore, straightforward, rough, lo-fi, without corrections due to the limited room for optimization afforded by a simple stereo source—thus essentially unmovable in terms of volume, mixes, timbres, error correction.

An introspective album, with soft atmospheres and delicate textures, which for once sets aside the characteristic Wurlitzer sound and favors acoustic parts.
