They call themselves "the greatest rock 'n' roll band on the planet" and for once, given the current state of decay in which our favorite music finds itself, this statement doesn't seem too exaggerated. There are few, very few, perhaps none, bands that play "Rock" with intensity, passion, and with a level of skill that would make the kids disgracefully gracing the stages nowadays pale in comparison.

Born among the cacti of Arizona in 1988, the Supersuckers embarked on a reverse musical journey. Initially harboring a feeling of repulsion for the country music prevalent in those parts, they decided to move to Seattle in unsuspecting times (before the explosion of grunge). After intense "live" activity, "Sub Pop", a famous local label, noticed them and released their first infamous lp "Smoke of hell".

The sounds are raw, abrasive, the monotone voice gives little to melody, in short, an album of "primordial punk" but it hints at interesting developments, because the blend is good and Rontrose Heatman's guitar is already sparking. The path is indeed "progressive," over the years improving "Eddy Spaghetti's" songwriting abilities leading to "The evil powers of rock 'n' roll," their masterpiece of 1999. An album of visceral and powerful "punk rock" like few others, followed in 2003 by "Motherfuckers be trippin" which reprises its themes with powerful "anthemic" tracks as per tradition; the album is dominated by guitars, the rhythm guitar of "Bolton" providing a sound and rhythmic backdrop with his "power chords", and the more versatile lead guitar of "Heatman" raging with legendary riffs and solos. Even the voice has improved, warm and enveloping, but ultimately it's the compositions that show the solidity of classics from "Sleepy vampire" to "Bubblegum and beer".

It's worth noting that "Spaghetti" has embarked on a parallel career as a "country" musician (a return to roots) and numerous genuinely country pieces appear in many Supersuckers' albums. After a life spent opening for great bands: Ramones, Social Distortion, Bad Religion, Motorhead, Butthole Surfers, Pearl Jam... it would be fair if the Supersuckers also emerged from oblivion... they deserve it, but since there is no justice in this world, we are left with leading a dissolute life to meet them sooner or later, among the "smoke of hell".
