Unmissable.
I can already hear the usual purists criticizing the lack of "originality": so what? Shall we talk about the much-praised Strokes, Hives, Vines, all of whom came after?
The album certainly owes much to the Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Supertramp, and many more... so what? Would contemporary rock music really exist without Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Who, Rolling Stones, Beatles...?
These are all trivial matters; in the end, albums, beyond their resemblances to others, are either good or bad.
This one (for me) is very good.
A concentration of pure rock, tending towards punk in certain episodes (Strange Ones, Caught By The Fuzz, I'd Like To Know, Lose It), towards a softer and more retro rock in others (Alright, Lenny, Mansize Rooster), there is also a bit of psychedelia (Sofa - Of My Lethargy) and a bit of craziness (We'Re Not Supposed To)... in short, there's something for everyone.
A complete album, with a thousand facets, for a debut work, it expresses a lot of things, all well set into the little gems that are the tracks of this album, from the first to the last.
I love it and continue to love it even today.
Immediate and simple (yet not sparse or basic), highly enjoyable, engaging, adrenaline-pumping and relaxing at the same time... what more could you want? Just one downside: too short. Time To Go always comes too soon...
