The Sunstorm project was born in 2006 thanks to the collaboration between the iconic singer Joe Lynn Turner (Rainbow, Deep Purple, Yngwie J. Malmsteen), bassist Dennis Ward, and guitarist Uwe Reitenauer (both from Pink Cream 69). The lineup is completed by keyboardist Gunter Werno (Vanden Plas), drummer Chris Schmidt, and second guitarist Thorsten Khoene.
After the excellent self-titled debut in 2006, the band releases their second album, titled "House Of Dreams". The album is characterized by mature, very melodic rock that showcases the artistic maturity of each member.
The journey begins with the magnificent "Divided", opened by a melancholic keyboard melody. Midway through the song, there's an excellent guitar solo distinguished by great technique combined with the passion conveyed, truly beautiful. A well-executed song that will not disappoint either the more "extreme" rockers or the more romantic ones.
The album continues with other fantastic tracks, such as "I Found Love" and "Gutters Of Gold", characterized by fast and sunny hard rock, with a very convincing performance by Joe Lynn Turner and both featuring good guitar solos (especially in the second) and "Forever Now", perhaps presenting the only drop in tension of House Of Dreams while still remaining a pleasant song.
As in every respectable AOR album, the ballads are not missing, such as "Don't Give Up" and "Say You Will", very melancholic and reaching their peak intensity in the guitar solos, "Save A Place In Your Heart" and "Tears On The Pages", which still have a more sustained rhythm, the beautiful, concluding "Walk On"a gem, which creates an incredible atmosphere, truly goosebump-inducing, and "The Spirit Inside", fantastic and featuring the best guitar solo of the album.
I would like to dedicate a separate discussion to the best track of the album, the excellent title track, a very melancholic song, full of passion and emotion, with one of the most beautiful choruses I've ever heard and with a Joe Lynn Turner who shows absolutely no signs of his 54 years, sounding like he did 20 years ago. As usual, the individual musicians' performances are impeccable, playing their instruments with heart, making this song great.
A beautiful, complete, and flawless album, highly recommended to every rocker.
