An unbreakable bond, the one that ties the Salentini Sud Sound System to their land. It is precisely from their relationship with it that the three members of the band, Nandu Popu, Don Rico, and Terron Fabio, start analyzing the whole society of today, yesterday, and tomorrow; a symbol of this analysis is precisely "Lontano," released in 2003 and immediately a milestone and indispensable for anyone wanting to approach the trio's sounds.

It presents itself as an album in which different styles both musical and textual are fused. Indeed, the sounds range from dancehall with a nod to Jamaica ("Trenu", "Le radici ca tieni") to pure and simple reggae in tracks like the title track and the fantastic "Notte e giurnu", the themes tackled by the three vary from social issues ("La gente povera") to the theme of light drugs ("Nuh se po proibire"), without forgetting the theme of love for a person ("Vita Mia") or for their own land ("Me basta lu sule"). References to artists like Beenie Man and Barry Levington are inevitable, but Africa Unite are also surely among the influences of the SSS.
An interesting topic to develop is also the theme of lyrics: indeed, while the theme of legalization was already distinctly present in previous albums, it is precisely with the opening song of the album that the SSS gain a new dimension, definitively becoming Italy's ambassadors of a land, Salento, which with its rhythms and lifestyle is one of the most entertaining corners of Italy.

In short, an album that marks the fundamental crossroads for this group, the turning point that will lead to the successes of years to come, culminating in the official invitation to participate in the prestigious reggae festival "Ocho Rios" in Jamaica, which has so much inspired the three Apulian boys.
