It's August 1990. Stryper releases their fifth album: "Against The Law".
Here it seems that Stryper wants to explore other paths by changing their image. In fact, they set aside their yellow and black suits that had made them famous in past years and wear boots and jeans like classic rockers, even appearing as prisoners in the album photos. They also remove "ISAIAH 53:5" (a Bible verse that inspired the band's name) from their logo, but they themselves specified that they simply wanted to achieve success without being labeled as the usual Christian band.
This album is about Heavy metal and not Christian metal, although the religious roots of the band are still noticeable, albeit in the background, in tracks like "Rock The Hell Out Of You" and "All For One", but this time the focus is solely on the music (and what music…!).
Even though the change was initially not well received by the public, the album achieved a respectable success (though less than other albums) mainly thanks to strong tracks like the gritty "Against The Law", "Two Time Woman", "Caught In The Middle", "Rock The People", and the fast-paced "Not That Kind Of Guy", but the crowning jewel is the wonderful, romantic ballad: "Lady", a beautiful love song about a girl.
The 4 guys are at the top of their game and offer us 11 excellent songs that you like from the first listen. From a non-global but technical point of view, this could be considered the band's best CD, but it remains nonetheless a great album rich in many facets and very varied, which can be recommended without hesitation.
