In 1995, the new work by the famous Finnish band called "Stratovarius" was released. This album is very different from their previous "Fright Night," "Twilight Time," and "Dreamspace," especially because of the new singer Timo Kotipelto, one of the most prestigious voices in the metal field, who replaces Tolkki in such a way that he can dedicate himself exclusively to playing the guitar.
The album is full of overwhelming riffs, characteristic of this band, alternating with acoustic passages to create sometimes dark, sometimes joyful atmospheres... but let's examine the lyrics one by one: "Against the Wind", a typical speed power track, opens the dance as if it were a true flagship song characterized by a commendable refrain that is impossible not to sing at the top of your lungs! We proceed with "Distant Skies", a song worthy of praise like the previous one for its unforgettable chorus. "Galaxies" is, in my opinion, one of the best pieces of the album, introduced by a beautiful keyboard part to proceed better, as if it were a national anthem. "Winter" instead is a slow and acoustic piece where Kotipelto's voice seems like a lament rich in melancholy, then turns into a desperate cry. "Stratovarius" is an instrumental that creates the right balance between power and melody. "Lord of the Wasteland" is, on the contrary, immense, overwhelming, and dark. "030366" they could have spared us, but on the bright side, I consider it as a simple pause, placed at the right point before reaching what I consider the masterpieces of the album, "Nightfall" and "We Hold the Key": the first has a relaxing atmosphere similar to those created by Pink Floyd, but much more melodic (here Tolkki's skill is simply exceptional and wonderful!); the other starts with a deep gallop replaced later by an acoustic and slow passage to proceed even better with Kotipelto showcasing all his vocal ability enough to make many singers envious! "Twilight Symphony" is a melodic piece that creates almost a memorable orchestra. The album concludes well with an acoustic instrumental "Call of the Wilderness."
Excellent album worthy of fame, absolutely a must-have for those who love this fantastic group!
LONG LIVE SPEED POWER METAL!!!!!!!!
