THE REVIEW

Albums of 2015 Part 4

We move from a band (Swings) with hazy coordinates to another that knows exactly what it's doing. Let's list the names before declaring my love: Dinosaur Jr. by the avalanche, Superchunk galore, Smashing Pumpkins here and there, Sonic Youth and My Bloody Valentine, a hint. I love Steve Hartlett, the former singer of the (sigh) late Ovlov, who carries the same sounds with him, so the break was only psychological. I can put him together with the other two entities that made me shout miracle of the 2010s, namely: Ariel Pink and Sam McGarrigle. But what is in Is Stupider? Get ready and hold on tight, to those who like the previously mentioned bands, 90s Alternative Rock, lots and lots of fuzzy guitars, and endless nostalgia, maintaining that vague shoegaze influence, which doesn't hurt, oh, there's even room for vintage punk; The silent evolution of Steve's sound exists. The album perhaps lasts a little too long, but cradling with the closing Dumboy (9 minutes) is worth the ticket. Song that must be listened to? Jock Dreams and Aged Hype (sorry for the last one but that's all there is)

Summary by Bot

Stove's album 'Is Stupider' captures the spirit of 90s alternative rock with fuzzy guitars and shoegaze influences. Steve Hartlett continues his musical journey after Ovlov, delivering nostalgia with a modern touch. Fans of Dinosaur Jr., Sonic Youth, and My Bloody Valentine will find much to love. The album is lengthy but rewarding, especially the closing track 'Dumboy'. Standout songs include 'Jock Dreams' and 'Aged Hype'.
