DIRECTLY FROM THE MIND OF THE GENIUS OF SAGINAW 1972:

After the previous beautiful work, but still partially immature "Where I'm Coming From" (1971), the first 'true' album of Stevie Wonder's full artistic maturity is released.

The artist's compositions take on a more defined form here, multidimensional, highly original, and extremely engaging. The album contains only nine tracks, but it's worth mentioning that many are very long, and in any case, all of them are of extremely high quality. These are deeply introspective songs. As the album title explicitly suggests, it's quite clear upon listening how the artist sought inspiration within himself to compose these pieces. These songs are truly intimate and sometimes even a bit irrational.

Here, Stevie truly offered his deepest emotions to musical inspiration, without filtering them in any way. The result is excellent. The ideas are incredibly strong, impetuous, and overwhelming, so much so that sometimes he still can't contain them within a classically structured song. This results in splendid tracks such as: "Love Having You Around" the legendary opening track (with a sound reminiscent of the future "Superstition") and "Superwoman," undoubtedly the best track on the album, which essentially contains two different melodies that follow each other within the song itself. Other notable tracks besides those mentioned: "I Love Every Little Thing About You" with a beautiful, explosive, and uncontrollable chorus, the softer and whispered "Happier Than The Morning Sun" of enchanting sweetness, still in the same genre, the more mysterious yet equally beautiful "Girl Blue" and finally the irresistible dynamism of the impelling "Keep On Running."

The form is not yet perfect, but the incredible abundance of the overwhelming 'creative idea' that animates this album is magnificent, already on par with the future "Songs In The Key Of Life."

Evil, why have you engulfed so many hearts...Evil
Evil, why have you destroyed so many minds...
Leaving room for darkness, where lost dreams can hide.

Evil, why do you infest our purest thoughts, with hatred.
Evil, why have you stolen so much love...
Leaving everyone's emotions lost and wandering free.

Evil, why have you taken over God's children's eyes...Evil
Evil, before they could really grow to see,
That your way, is not the way, to make, life what it should be, Yea, yea, yea
Evil, why have you destroyed, you've destroyed so much of this doggone world...Evil
Evil, oh, why have you broken so many homes...
Leaving everyone's emotions lost and wandering free.
