If anyone believed that after crafting a cornerstone of modern music like "Songs in the Key of Life", Stevie Wonder would not reach such great heights again, they were sorely mistaken.
After a somewhat original, bizarre, yet still interesting interlude in 1979 with "Journey through the Secret Life of Plants", Stevie returns in 1980 with the monumental "Hotter than July".
The album contains some of the artist’s most beautiful songs. Standing out among them is the splendid "Lately", a ballad where Stevie does it all (piano, bass, and vocals), with concluding vocal acrobatics that give you goosebumps. Or the reggae-soul of "Master Blaster (Jammin')", lively and compelling, dedicated to Bob Marley. And also the last song, "Happy Birthday", written for Martin Luther King, magnificent! Among others worth mentioning are: "Did I Hear You Say You Love Me", "All I Do", "I Ain't Gonna Stand For It", and the wonderful music balanced between the romantic and the mysterious of the dark-love-song "Rocket Love".
On the cover, Stevie is sweating, and inside the booklet, his piano catches fire, this album truly warms our hearts, which is indeed "Hotter than July"!
