Thinking that the success of the debut album, "Texas Flood," as well as the subsequent accolades awarded to Stevie Ray, were primarily due to the novelty and the uproar caused by reviving Hendrix and with it the blues wouldn't have been such a far-fetched idea: but Vaughan clears the field of arguments of this type with the subsequent "Couldn't Stand The Weather" (1984).
In the face of great expectations, the success exceeds even the rosiest predictions and the album goes gold. His version of Hendrix's “Vodoo Chile (Slight Return)” is not a simple emulation but an incredible interpretation. Stevie Ray Vaughan becomes the first white blues guitarist to win two W.C. Handy National Blues Awards as “Best Blues Entertainer of the year” and “Best Blues Instrumental of the year”.
The incredible solo (set against a rhythm technique nothing short of exhilarating) in the title track “Couldn't Stand The Weather,” which alone would be worth the purchase of the album, is the pure demonstration of how one can intervene to correct nuances through overdubbing, doing it magnificently! With its wonderful riff, “Cold Shot” is the quintessence of blues. For his part, and following the wake of the previous work, through “Tin Pan Alley,” which earns him one of the two awards mentioned, SRV seems to want to say: here I am! If you were waiting for me, I've arrived. Another masterpiece of blues rock, unmissable.
A little curiosity: in “Tin Pan Alley” and “Couldn't Stand The Weather,” SRV uses “Charlie,” an imitation of the Stratocaster with a more groove sound, named after a friend whose death that very year would inspire Stevie Ray in “Life without you.”

01 Pride and Joy (03:39)
Well you've heard about love givin' sight to the blind
My baby's lovin' cause the sun to shine
She's my sweet little thing, she's my pride and joy
She's my sweet little baby, I'm her little lover boy
Yeah I love my baby, heart and soul
Love like ours won't never grow old
She's my sweet little thing, she's my pride and joy
She's my sweet little baby, I'm her little lover boy
Yeah, I love my lady, she's long and lean
You mess with her, you'll see a man get mean
She's my sweet little thing, she's my pride and joy
She's my sweet little baby, I'm her little lover boy
Well I love my baby, like the finest wine
Stick with her until the end of time
She's my sweet little thing, she's my pride and joy
She's my sweet little baby, I'm her little lover boy
Yeah I love my baby, heart and soul
Love like ours won't never grow old
She's my sweet little thing, she's my pride and joy
She's my sweet little baby, I'm her little lover boy
