I had already seen this colossal crap. Maybe my brain was switched off. At that moment, in fact, I had filed it as merely awful, but not unwatchable. However, last night, tired, I flopped down on the couch and watched it again. Ohhh Jesus!!! This film is truly horrifying from any angle you look at it. Damn, even the title is ridiculous.
Based on a comic I don’t know, the story of the film is at least ridiculous. The captain Nemo of the Nautilus is randomly gathered with a technologically advanced Titanic-like liner, amusing himself by splashing through the canals of Venice, which, as we know, are very deep. Along with this emblematic, bearded, and Indian presence are some other fantastic characters. Among them is the invisible man: hilarious is the use of special effects reserved for him when he needs to be framed. In some cases, due to a lack of budget, the director uses white makeup to show us our hero... damn, have a bit of decency!!! Then there’s the obligatory hot vampire chick and Dorian Gray, played by an actor in an extremely unfortunate version of Johnny Depp?? Completing the circle is the most accomplished character of all: Dr. Jeckyll and Mr. Hyde.
To round it all out, there is a senile Sean Connery in the role of a leader, despite having no particular powers except for total myopia, trembling hands, and about thirty years too many to be cool and offer any credibility to his elephantine movements and swaggering lines. For this reason, they give him a useless young partner who takes his place in the obscene conclusion of the film.
Gravely Insufficient in screenplay, editing, dialogues, and actors' performance. Let's also add some pretty crappy special effects (see Venice). The result is that the aforementioned film is an excellent example of how NOT to make action movies. Absolute zero.
