Stephen King Goes to the Movies. A collection of stories that inspired movies, some of them quite significant.
The first story is 1408. The apocalyptic experience in a hotel room by a writer who publishes books on haunted places. Despite being very skeptical, he has gained some notoriety thanks to his books.
“Ten Nights in Ten Haunted Houses,” “Ten Nights in Ten Haunted Cemeteries,” and “Ten Nights in Ten Haunted Castles.”
Finally, a new place to visit when he learns about the story of room 1408.
A room that is no longer rented out as there have already been 12 suicides and 30 natural deaths.
His persistence is such that he eventually convinces the hotel manager to give him the key to room 1408. 40 pages of breathless suspense.
The film is excellent even if the plot is quite different from the story. Great performance by John Cusack. A box office hit in 2007.
The story Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption is spectacular. An experience lived in prison by an innocent man accused of murder. The Shawshank Redemption is its cinematic adaptation.
Starring Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman. If you haven't seen the movie, I highly recommend it.
The other stories are The Mangler (an industrial laundry press that comes to life from a Voodoo ritual), Hearts in Atlantis (a hunt for an elderly man who is protected by a teenager with family issues), and Children of the Corn (a couple attacked by youths who have slaughtered a small rural town).
Happy reading.
