LA RECENSIONE

STEFANO DENTONE & ANTONIO GHEZZANI – I pugilatori

(Roots Rebele Records)

A little over a year after “Teatro Staller,” the duo composed of Stefano Dentone and Antonio Ghezzani returns with “I pugilatori,” an album even richer and more studied than the previous one if possible.

Undoubtedly, the arrival of Stefano Corona on bass and Andrea Spinetti on drums has allowed the Livorno duo to develop fuller and more “complete” arrangements.

The sound remains extremely direct and incisive, characterized by sharp rhythms, a vocal style closely tied to the cantautore-rock tradition, and powerful guitars with solos and riffs that ride the line between classic rock and blues.

The lyrics in Italian, English, and French move from loves and uncertainties to funerals and revolts, or again from personal reflections to fears and anger.

A complete album. Something different for the Italian rock scene.

Summary by Bot

I Pugilatori by Stefano Dentone and Antonio Ghezzani offers a more developed and comprehensive sound compared to their previous album. Adding new members on bass and drums enriches the arrangements, resulting in sharp rhythms and powerful guitar work blending classic rock and blues. The multilingual lyrics explore diverse emotional themes, making it a distinctive addition to the Italian rock scene. The album scores moderately, reflecting its ambitious yet uneven execution.
