Stefano Bollani is undoubtedly one of the most talented and eclectic jazz pianists of our time and our country, recognized abroad as well as in Italy. This time he has decided to measure himself with the Carioca tradition and to do so he has decided to go directly on site and enlist the contribution of some stars from the Brazilian scene like Zé Nogueira, Jorge Helder, and Jurim Moreira. The CD revisits some classics of samba and choro, giving the "Bollani touch" to the works of Jacob Do Bandolim, Ismael Silva, and others. Only one piece by the pianist himself, "Il domatore di pulci," which seems made on purpose to fit into this repertoire.

The album is unmissable for both jazz enthusiasts and samba and bossa nova aficionados. Bollani, with the help of two of the Visionari, Nico Gori and Mirko Guerrini, rearranges and plays these musical genres in his own way, which in Italy are not very popular. It is not by chance that the only really famous piece among us in the album is "Tico Tico No Fubà" - if you hear it, you should recognize it easily, even though it has been somewhat altered. The pieces, except for a couple that are sung, are all instrumental.

In 2007, "BollaniCarioca" was already released, practically the same album but exclusively attached to Repubblica and L'Espresso. The album sold out, and a year later this "Carioca" was released, featuring the same tracklist with three additional live tracks and a slightly more refined cover. But this time you can find it in any store.
