Even in "Margherita Dolcevita", Benni impresses me. In terms of plot, I liked "Il Saltatempo" much more, but I also appreciated this one a lot.
"Margherita Dolcevita" is an incredible character, where catastrophes and fear (not of the classic boogeyman, mind you! But of the dust girl) are transformed into an imaginary film or a joke, or anyway something comical. With her mischievous mind and always ready with a reply. Admirable her confession that the train eroticizes! Because she will find her true love there and the lucky ones could be: Che, the singer of Radiohead, a lesbian, or a sexy conductor. She, running in the green fields, was the lightest girl in the world and didn't care a bit about her extra pounds. Margherita, the most amazing and clever girl that exists, from playing with her gypsy friend window washer, to watching her dog Pisolo while it poops and calculating its height, to writing poems and only story beginnings, to following her mom -like all moms today- while she watched the never-ending soaps, dealing with an older brother crazy about soccer and a younger super-genius brother madly in love with the math teacher.
Margherita laps up chocolate, blue sky, and stars. She, a girl both disputatious and brilliant, who believes that "Perfect communication exists. And it's the quarrel".
