THE REVIEW

In a post-industrial and post-human city besieged by police and smog, where even the little green remaining seems to yearn for death by cementification, an unlikely trio composed of an elderly literature professor (Dario Fò), a mechanic and Kung-Fu master with a dark past (Paolo Rossi), and a lively little girl eager to escape from school and the pale banality of adults, traverse like a strange caravan through the sad metropolitan underbrush, penetrating the facets of urban reality represented by sterile residential neighborhoods, promiscuous slums, and the old overgrown suburbia.

Chased by the archetype of the modern man devoid of feelings and a slave to social climbing, with dangerous racist and xenophobic deviations (Eros Pagni), our heroes take us with this film into a dreamlike dimension full of melancholy (given the all too many analogies with the current human situation) up to the bitter epilogue that will leave a bittersweet taste, a tear, and a smile.

Deliberately adapted and not faithful to the book "Comici spaventati guerrieri" by the magnificent Stefano Benni, who directs alongside Umberto Angelucci, this film represents one of the last gems of Italian auteur cinema, sometimes perhaps a bit naive but certainly original and genuine. Absolutely a must-see.
