LA RECENSIONE

After years spent on the road with more or less known bands, the Abruzzese Startoday have built a reputation that especially abroad is beginning to bear fruit. Credit goes to a band that for some time now seems to have found the right balance between live shows and studio productions, both charged with adrenaline and passion. The theme we are discussing is called new-school hardcore, a genre these musicians know perfectly well, being fans themselves and engaging with it in a simply captivating manner.

With the new EP "Good Luck," the band returns to make its voice heard after a period of recording silence due - indeed - to the busy schedule of live appointments in which they have been protagonists, showing themselves perfectly up to date in the five tracks presented.

Their formula is always winning: no posers or momentary trends, just good hardcore played at fast speeds and "in your face" in its approach. Their understanding of the word music closely resembles that of bands across the ocean, especially those from the house of Bridge Nine, a historic independent hardcore label that has, in its own way, coined a trademark in the aforementioned genre. As always, the lyrics are a vital part of the Startoday universe because, as the band itself says, "living in close contact with continuous contradictions leads to being constantly pissed off," and that’s how things go. In "Good Luck," every lyric is shouted in the listener's face, amplified in the most important parts by assault choruses. Their track has to be fast, otherwise, it loses meaning... And here there is indeed plenty of speed, with sprints like "Welcome Mediocrity" and "Few Seconds To Understand."

To the delight of those who grew up listening to Comeback Kid (the early works), Champion, and Betrayal.
