"Don't you remember anything? Well, I had already seen him in the morning in the hotel lobby... HE looked at me as he passed by, just a glance..."

"Sometimes just a glance, that's all it takes, to put an end to everything" impermanence of life's certainties...

But is it a play? No, it's a dream! In dreams there is life, the life of everyone!!!

The dreamlike part of the film is fundamental to interpret it and like all brilliant films, it needs to be watched several times. There are so many symbols, archetypes, occult and paraphilias that can only fit together in a dream.

It all begins with a beautiful couple preparing for a party, a luxurious life, a little daughter, a beautiful home! Deja Vu.

Bill and Alice Harford above all are (apparently) open accomplices, they attend exclusive parties! Once they arrive at the party, they immediately go their separate ways. Both flirt separately with other people as if it were nothing. Can a couple live like this in reality? Of course, as long as they go home together and not like in "The Ice Storm by Ang Lee" with someone else's car keys. Deja Vu.

Even New York, like the couple, is (apparently) New York, but it's not, even dressed up for Christmas! The city that never sleeps is dormant and lacks rhythm throughout the film, like in theater. Cardboard scenes that hide the backstage! What's wrong with this marriage? What does Nicole want to confide in her husband while smoked and drunk?

A betrayal, even one that's only dreamt but shattering in Bill's mind! Stop. Let's watch it in all its splendor

(This masterful scene will then mark the beginning of Nicole Kidman's decline, with the exception of Lars Von Trier's beautiful Dogville in 2003)

In four minutes and thirty seconds, the woman makes all of the complacent Dr. Bill's certainties crumble, executing one of the most subtle ways of women betraying, with the MIND. Alice is disturbed by the evening, he had to solve an issue, left her alone too long with an admirer, and she is mean, cynical, self-satisfied. She wants to wound him deeply, and she succeeds.

Just like in a dream, Bill leaves home for work and experiences a thousand adventures and misadventures that return him, faithful and more in love than before, to his wife. After all, the password to enter the exclusive party with high erotic content is precisely "Fidelio"! What's impressive about the entire film is also the "bewilderment" of the exceptional Tom Cruise; he moves slowly, as if he had been shot... his life will never be the same.

Let's change scene... my pragmatism compels me to bring everything back to reality on the "mental betrayal of women"!

Small town bar, a woman and her husband with friends. A wolfhound keeps going to her while the husband sensually strokes her legs. They've just made love and endorphins are still circulating. The wolfhound is connected to a leash firmly held by a beautiful hand. She raises her eyes and there is one of the most handsome young men she has ever seen. He observes her and watches the hand that caresses her legs. The scene becomes highly erotic. She gets up and goes to the bathroom, in her mind she wants to be followed. That woman (still in her mind) if taken by the hand by that young man, would have followed him.

After some time, one evening, unlike Alice, that woman is alone and drunk, sees that young man again, they recognize each other, talk for half an hour but her hands are occupied with house keys, she returns flattered and relieved by the immense danger avoided. (Santa Subito). I write the ending for the many men and women in love in this place!

A year and a half of filming, scenes made and remade. A nightmare for the Kidman/Cruise couple who separate. Kubrick dies, before the film's success. Before the film is truly understood.

Eyes Wide Shut (already the title a contradiction) goes on to break down and recompose the institution most at risk at this moment THE MARRIAGE
