These are some notes I can read on my cassette purchased in London in January 1998. It hasn't expired yet, so the music should still give good vibrations.

Before delving into the analysis of "Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space" by Spiritualized, it's important to emphasize a personal consideration: I believe Jason Pierce's creative peak occurred during his collaboration with Sonic Boom in Spacemen 3.

That said, "Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space" remains a timeless masterpiece of alternative music, a sort of "Dark Side of the Moon" of the '90s. Released in 1997, the album is a testament to Pierce’s genius in creating musical works that challenge the boundaries of genre and imagination.

"Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space" is a work that goes beyond the boundaries of time and space. It is a sensory experience that captures the listener's soul and transports them to a dimension of contemplation and reflection.

The opening track is one of the best openings of the '90s, a powerful statement of intent that prepares the listener for the emotional journey to follow.

The album offers a series of highlights that unravel among the tracks, from the hypnotic and spacey "Cool Waves" and "Home of the Brave" to the powerful and moving "Stay With Me". Each track is a piece in a larger sonic puzzle, where distorted guitars blend with gospel choirs and ethereal melodies to create a unique and engaging atmosphere.

Yet, despite the depth and complexity of its music, "Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space" is also a cathartic experience: like an aspirin descending from the sky to soothe our troubled souls. It is a work that offers comfort and consolation in a world often chaotic and confusing.

In conclusion, if you are looking for something that goes beyond mere musical listening and leads you on an inner journey, then "Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space" definitely deserves your attention. It is an album that defies conventions and rises as a precious gem in the crown of alternative music, witnessing the genius and vision of Jason Pierce.

Music (with a capital M) as medicine.

We take off with the track bearing the same name as the title, starting softly but inexorably; slow and barely audible, yet determined to stretch toward its grand symphonic finale.

Never before has the music of Spiritualized attempted to reconcile abstract and concrete, physical and immaterial, desire and its fulfillment.

The suite of Cop Shot Cop with Doctor John’s magical piano sets everything right again.
