Spencer Dickinson

Musical Group or Musician

A collaborative project involving Jon Spencer (of Jon Spencer Blues Explosion) and Luther and Cody Dickinson. The album The Man Who Lives for Love was first released in Japan on Zebra Ranch in 2001 and later issued by Yep Roc.

Project conceived around a collaboration between Jon Spencer and the Dickinson brothers; Jim Dickinson is credited in review narrative as having the idea to put them together in the studio/basement. The album features 19 tracks and blends garage rock, hard rock, noise, Mississippi blues and alternative-country influences.

A mixed but affectionate review of the Spencer Dickinson collaboration album The Man Who Lives for Love. The record is described as raw, garage/noise-inflected rock with splashes of Mississippi blues and alt-country. Recommended for Jon Spencer followers; less immediately for North Mississippi All-Stars fans.

For:Fans of Jon Spencer, garage rock, raw/noise-influenced recordings, and listeners curious about Mississippi-influenced collaborations.

To say that the album in question is a "masterpiece" would be false, but we are certainly dealing with a genuine project, made in a basement with little reasoning but with a lot of sweat.
