Imagine a ghost wandering the streets of your city.
An unseen and unheard ghost, who sees and hears your thoughts and emotions. Imagine this ghost can write music.
He's an emerging artist, releasing his first mini CD, composed of 4 tracks totaling about 20 minutes of sound. This Spectral Eye pretends to be an ethereal and invisible spirit, who peeks at his fellow citizens and tastes their emotions, turning them into music. He's an emerging artist, quite young (or so it seems from the only photo he has posted on his personal site) and leans towards the dark, with blackened eyes and cries over visions of others' memories, while taking in the city's dirty rain. He's an emerging artist who may seem excessive, perhaps a bit theatrical, maybe a bit vain and pretentious... But he's an emerging artist who has talent, damn!
This guy composed 4 pieces that made me click "download". He composed 4 pieces that I added to my morning playlist. 4 pieces whose lyrics I read and pondered. And all this means, beyond the likes or dislikes that his crooked and narcissistic look inspires in me, that this guy has talent. It's about electronic music; "experimental music," his netlabel says (Rain netlabel, Polish): basically, everything is played with the aid of a computer and a keyboard, track by track, instrument by instrument. There are sounds of distorted guitars mixed with piano. There are simple, obsessive melodies with basic rhythms, as mere support. There are words sung with a deep and distorted voice almost as much as the guitars, with a metallic inflection, as if shouted through a megaphone. In short, concluding my review, I can say that this mini CD will either drive you crazy or make you cringe, there are hardly any middle grounds.
And its author, Spectral Eye, either fascinates or disgusts, just like his music, with no middle grounds either. (...the real problem is if you end up like me: I like his music, but he disgusts me!)
Do I recommend listening to it? Yes. Or rather, no... well, do as you please. If I have piqued your curiosity or if you think you might be interested in the genre, here are the links to find it:
