Cursi, an amalgamation of four little houses inhabited by old folks in the deep Salento. In this idyllic landscape, the legendary Soulfly are playing, accompanied by Extrema and other emerging bands.

Accompanied by two friends, a stiff neck, and a heavy stomachache, I approached the main stage while other bands were playing on stage B. Damn, nothing in the world can stop me from seeing Max from the front row!! So, like an octopus on the railing, we spent hours there, and on stage came the Extrema. I only know a few of their songs, but I must say they really deliver live: powerful, clear, and crisp sound, with guitar and drums that are mind-blowing; true stage animals despite having a very revised setlist due to the overall concert delay. Hats off, and here comes the staff to prepare the stage for the true stage beasts. Considering they are the first foreign band I've seen live—if we exclude Placebo, which I'm ashamed to admit—you can understand I was quite excited. Here comes the music from A Clockwork Orange, the smoke with green lights, the Brazilian flag flying atop the amplifier, and here comes the playful Max Cavalera, starting to drench the delirious crowd (this will continue throughout the concert), they start off strong, and we lose ourselves in moshing and dancing to Back To The Primitive, Prophecy, Bring It, Eye For An Eye, Babylon, Molotov, a hint of Jumpdafuckup, the great Sepultura classics Roots Bloody Roots and Refuse/Resist, and two songs I don't know performed with some guy who appeared out of nowhere. Mark Rizzo increasingly sweaty and never still, Joe-octopus-Nunez and Bobby Burns indescribably amazing. In front of a top-notch band, any stiff neck disappears because your head moves on its own, your hands too, and your mouth sings at the top of your lungs, except for the songs I don't know!

Needless to say, after the concert I felt as bad as a dog in heat, but I reaffirm that it was worth it. The setting is not the best for them, Soulfly deserved much more audience and a much better location, but when will I ever have the chance to have people who have made music history nearby again??
