God of War 3 has been released.
I'm not going to retell the whole story that you can read on many sites; I recommend Wikipedia or others, but I wanted to talk to you about the game in question.
You start where the 2 ended, to demonstrate how this game is designed as a sequel to the previous chapter. The climb of the Titans!!!
So Kratos is ready to exact his revenge against Zeus, and at the beginning, he is on Gaia, the titan of the earth who is climbing Olympus, the mountain near Athens where the gods reside.
Zeus looks worried down below and sends his henchmen to defeat the titans and Kratos (the game's protagonist).
First of all, the first monster to face is Neptune, the god of water, on whom one eventually prevails and rips out his eyes!
Then Zeus gets angry and sends Kratos to Hades where Hades resides. This part is very nice because you encounter many things that those who have studied mythology, like me, understand, such as Cerberus, the Styx, Apollo's bow, Pandora, centaurs, chimeras, and so on.
Then, through a thousand adventures, one manages to battle Hades, who is defeated, also stealing his soul. At this point, Hephaestus is encountered, who is one of the scariest and well-made characters in the entire game. Hephaestus is very angry with Kratos because he blames him for Zeus forcing him into Hades, but Kratos tells him it's not his fault. Initially, Hephaestus seems friendly, but after a while, he will prove to be an enemy.
Then Kratos encounters Gaia again, and this time he cuts off her hand, killing her. He meets Apollo and rips off his head, killing him. He meets Hermes and cuts off his legs, killing him. He meets Hercules and crushes his face, killing him. He meets Cronus (the most beautiful and giant monster to ever appear in any Play Station game) and disembowels him, killing him. He meets Hera and breaks her neck, killing her. He meets Aphrodite and in exchange for some game tips, makes love to her (every time you press the "O" button).
In the meantime, Hephaestus is also killed, having tried to deceive Kratos (Hephaestus's character is pitiful because he does everything only to save his daughter Pandora and thus cannot be seen as a true villain; he is almost a victim of Zeus's wrath).
Moreover, every time Kratos kills a god, he receives weapons in exchange, which are very useful and will help him in his final revenge.
In the end, after escaping Hades and the Tartarus desert, Kratos manages to reach Zeus's home and the battle begins!!!
Initially, it seems that Zeus has the upper hand, thanks in part to playing at home, but when the fight moves to the heart of Gaia (who seemed dead but whose body had not been found after her fall from Olympus, with the exception of a hand that was found by Cronus), it is Kratos who has the advantage, also killing the god of gods.
But the real twist comes at the end when you think that finally there are no more gods to fight, it is there that Kratos kills himself by throwing a sword at himself.
In conclusion, the game is really great and graphically has no comparison, with stunning scenarios and enemies up to the challenge. In short, it's worth every cent of the 65 € spent.
The only negative point I feel compelled to make about the game is precisely the ending because Kratos's death seems to have no meaning and no explanation. It certainly would have been much better if, with Kratos now on Olympus, with Zeus's head in his hand, he pronounced the fateful phrase:
THIS! IS! SPARTA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
