Here we are. The journey of Sonic Youth reaches its culmination in 1987 with "Sister", one of the best albums by the four from New York. Here, a serene and clean sound is present, with the famous exemplary riffs of Lee and Thurston and Shelley's "sonic" drumming.
The journey begins with the splendid Schizophrenia, an example of the compactness achieved by the group. This incredible song is characterized by the splendid guitars and the voices of Thurston and Kim, among the masterpieces of the album, and of Sonic Youth.
Another masterpiece of the album is the very fast Stereo Sancity, which manages to evoke unique emotions thanks to its extremely distorted guitars and Moore's exemplary voice.
What can I say? The other songs are no less impressive.
Here, finally, the purity of the dirty and noisy sound so well known as "Noise" is achieved, of which these four gentlemen are the main exponents and have been a source of inspiration for bands like Pavement, Nirvana, and Blonde Redhead (the latter of which features Steve Shelley as a producer).
It is difficult to identify a weak point in Sonic Youth, and if the recent "Sonic Nurse", which is quite enjoyable by the way, is not up to the legendary previous records, it does present killer tracks like "Pattern Recognition", a testament that Sonic Youth has not yet faded...
"Sister" merges sound experimentation and new guitar techniques with quintessential pop music form.
"Beauty Lie in the Eye" is Kim Gordon in all her melancholic sweetness.
