THE REVIEW

The craze for MCDs is now widespread, even though I find them very expensive and suitable only for fans. The same goes for Successor, although personally I adore Sonata Arctica.

“Full Moon” (radio edit), shorter than the track on "Ecliptica", is an excellent calling card, captivating and enjoyable. Moreover, the lyrics are truly poetic.
Then we have 2 covers: “Still Loving You” by the Scorpions and “I Want Out” by Helloween. The first is phenomenal, sweet yet powerful, accompanied by beautiful orchestrations, it almost seems like an original, whereas the second is not particularly exciting, but it is still worth listening to.
The 2 original tracks are “S. Sebastian”, which is an excellent speed piece in Sonata style that will later be re-proposed in a different version on the “Silence” cd, although I personally prefer this version, and “Shy”, a decent track even if not exceptional.
The cd closes with the amazing live versions of “Replica” and “My Land”, now a must at every concert.

The more time goes by, the more Sonata Arctica deservedly gain fame, credibility, and fans. If you love the Finnish group, don't miss out on this product.

Sonata Arctica

Sonata Arctica is a Finnish metal band best known for power metal, prominent keyboards, and vocalist Tony Kakko. Reviews emphasize their early melodic power-metal run (Ecliptica, Silence, Winterheart's Guild) and discuss a later shift toward more complex and experimental songwriting (notably Unia and beyond).
