Nashville is a wonderfully warm, typical, intimate, and enveloping album. Open your hearts to the rough yet caressing voice of Solomon Burke, the pure soul of soul.
Try to perceive its country essence, gospel roots, and clarity of blues sounds that I love to define as pure American derivation in enveloping atmospheres full of intimacy, and believe me, this is not a "modest" album. It is the latest work of an incredible career, of a man, a reverend, who has always used the innermost part of his soul as a means of expression, who lives music through an indescribable spiritual involvement. Deep, like redemption. Impossible not to love it. Seek a spiritual approach, and you will come out deeply touched. I address those who are not fans of the country genre and emphasize that this work is an exception. There are many ingredients that make the work comprehensive, emblematic, symbolic, and therefore definitely appreciable.
Traits of sublime refinement alternate with expressions of musical joy, through historical sound roots that tell of religious charisma through singing, communication with God, and man's relationship with Him. But there's a sense and taste of perceiving atmospheres that flood with tranquility, recalling moments of reflection, as well as encountering fractions of carefree joy and sharing. This is the music of Reverend Burke, whose voice, accompanied by essential instrumentation, is the protagonist of a strong expressiveness and succeeds with surprising spontaneity in bringing back the uncontaminated atmospheres of American music history. Preserving such purity and being able to convey the message even today is not an easy task. Fourteen clear tracks, without blunders. A pleasure from start to finish. I point out with pleasure "That's How I Got To Memphis", which has the mood of a narrative felt viscerally with a sparse and clear musical accompaniment as a perfect match. But every piece is a well-accomplished little recipe.
Tracklist and Lyrics
01 That's How I Got to Memphis (03:20)
That's How I Got To Memphis (Tom T. Hall)
If you love somebody enough
You follow them wherever they go
That's how I got to Memphis
That's how I got to Memphis
If you love somebody enough
Then you go where your heart needs to go
That's how I got to Memphis
That's how I got to Memphis
I know if you'd seen her
You'd tell me cause you are my friend
I've got to find her
And find out the trouble she's in
If you tell me she isn't here
I'll follow by the trail of her tears
That's how I got to Memphis
That's how I got to Memphis
She' use to get mad and she'd say
She'd go back to Memphis someday
That's how I got to Memphis
That's how I got to Memphis
I got to find her
Tell her that I love her so
I'll never rest till I find out why she had to go
Thank you for your precious time
Forvive me if I start to cryin'
That's how I got to Memphis
That's how I got to Memphis

Nashville is an album that stuns with its honesty, and it certainly wouldn’t have been fair, facing a Burke in great shape, to expect anything less.
It’s truly heart-wrenching that involves Burke and his extraordinary voice in ballads like 'Valley of tears', 'Atta way to go', 'Up to the mountain', or 'Till I get it right'.
