There will come a day when we will throw everything to the wind, not caring about anything or anyone. We will slam the door behind us with a goodbye and a see you later to be confirmed. We will spit out all our anger along the way, delude ourselves with past loves, cradle under a starry sky, lost in its immensity. We will break every tie with what happened, incapable of feeling true emotions, insensitive to the suffering of others. If we had to encapsulate all our despair, all our suffering, encapsulate the problems, the anxiety, the gloom, and transform all this into music, the album that would come out would be a work of overwhelming solitude. "Through the darkest hour" is one of the doom albums that best represents this genre from an emotional and conceptual point of view, thanks to a rich and slow sound, complex lyrics and a depth that is at times astonishing.

Every type of music is the reflection of a moment. It is said that when summer arrives, albums of this kind are set aside in favor of lighter works. But a CD like this one makes you understand how in reality music, and life in general, is not the fruit of a moment but is this and that's it. Almost as if everything we live and feel is the perfect reflection of a personality more than a state of mind. Certainly, things can change but never drastically. From when we are born we become aware of the difficulties we will face and thus we accept them on our shoulders. "The 8th Day: Mourning".

In the same way, we know when everything is about to end, when tomorrow does not exist and we are forced to wander in the infinite harshness of the present. "The 9th Day: Awakening".

The slow unfolding of "Pain" makes us understand how actually pain is the predominant feeling in an existence. Happiness and joy are momentary, while our hope in something else, in something better, is eternal. "Eternal (Dreams Pt II)".

Awareness of our illness through vocal distortions in "Perfect insanity", the conclusion sets a stone on any chimera of recovery. Man is now shattered, almost deboned, incapable now more than ever to oppose all the filth of this world, of an existence forcefully constrained in a direction not its own. "Shattered my spirit" is all of this: a musical dolmen that destroys every last, definitive, feeble search for hope.

Solitude Aeturnus have created with Through the darkest hour a marvelously suffering work due to various recording issues with the label but also to internal battles within the band, which had to change its lineup multiple times before finding final stability.

Thankfully, albums of this kind exist, in history, in music, in life. An album that is not just the simple union of notes but truly touches the heart, awakening emotions believed to be long dormant.
