English synth-pop duo formed by Marc Almond and David Ball, best known for the 1981 album Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret and the hit single "Tainted Love."

Soft Cell formed in 1978 as a duo of Marc Almond (vocals) and David Ball (electronics). Their 1981 single "Tainted Love" and the album Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret brought them mainstream attention. Later albums explored darker, more theatrical themes. The duo reunited for recordings and tours in the 2000s and again around 2018.

DeBaser reviews praise Soft Cell's landmark 1981 debut Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret for its songwriting and atmosphere. Subsequent albums are noted for darker, more mature themes, especially This Last Night In Sodom. Reunion and remix releases received mixed-to-positive reactions.

For:Fans of 1980s synth-pop, new wave and electronic music; listeners interested in dramatic, lyrical pop and queer-themed songwriting.
