I was browsing on DeBaser and I thought of reviewing one of the artists I like the most, namely Snoop Dogg.
To my surprise, I found only one review on this great artist, namely ''Doggystyle,'' which is definitely his best album and perhaps the best in rap.
I wanted to review precisely ''Doggystyle'' since it's my favorite album by Snoopy, but then I thought... ''I need to review something new,'' so I decided to review his latest album, namely ''Doggumentary.''
As I said before, Snoop's best album is ''Doggystyle,'' but he has since produced other great albums like ''The Doggfather'' and ''The Last Meal,'' but also some flops like ''Malice In Wonderland'' and ''Ego Trippin,'' but now let's review this ''Doggumentary.''
I don't feel like doing a track-by-track review of this album since it just doesn't seem appropriate... I must say that compared to his recent works, this is a great step forward in terms of sound and tone.
The interesting tracks are the following:
- ''Toyz n Da Hood,'' a piece made with the great Bootsy Collins that recalls the old Snoop, namely the funk and Rhythm and Blues one;
- ''Wet,'' perhaps a bit of a banal track but it doesn't shy away from saying what Snoop thinks, and he says it through a song (I just want to make you wet);
- ''Sweat''... I don't love David Guetta and I don't love his music but I have to say that his sounds combined with Snoop's great voice have made the piece better than the original (I just want to make you sweat);
- ''Boom,'' which just like the previously mentioned tracks has been released and might be the most beautiful track on the album, thanks to T-Pain, it gives the song an entirely different sound... I can say this is one of the most fitting collaborations Snoop has made lately.
- ''The Way Life Used to Be'' is a track sung only by Snoop that I really appreciated (being a huge fan of his).
As you can see, I've only mentioned a few tracks, namely the best ones.
This is not a bad album, on the contrary... it's an album in step with the times in terms of sound, but I do say the lyrics could have been more engaging and there could have been some better collaborations.
