"Bad Lieutenant" is the first single from the new work of Smart Cops, "To Protect and Serve." This group was formed at the end of 2007, and after numerous tours in the States, Israel, and Europe, they released their first full album, with the peculiarity of being produced both in CD/digital version and vinyl.
The band was born as a consequence of failing to be admitted to a police recruitment competition, and this past is noticeable in their look; black leather jackets, black pants with red stripes along the sides, black t-shirts, and leather gloves, a sort of uniform that represents and distinguishes them, emphasizing "the situationist spirit of the project."
Theirs is a punk genre, with simple and straightforward words and noisy sounds. Influenced by the Dead Boys and the Ramones, by the '60s garage and the Italian beat of I Ribelli and I New Dada, their lyrics are evidently against the police, ironically highlighting "the small police-like weaknesses (which then reflect in every individual's life), the daily uncertainties, the awkwardness and clumsiness."
An album for lovers of the genre that highlights the experience and musical level of this group. Not much, unfortunately.
