Rating: A clarification is due: as a fan of this band, my judgment is certainly influenced by listening to their previous works while many readers probably do not know the artists in question or have approached them thanks to the heavy summer rotation on Virgin Radio. The Slut, from Germany, on their sixth album, unravel a series of songs with a distinct appeal leaning towards the British scene, deviating in many ways from their previous albums, which were decidedly more pop. Yet the tracks vary from one another both in mood and writing style, so upon listening, it is striking to find yourself moving from exclusively Beatles-like settings (StillNo1) to much more contemporary episodes like melancholic songs akin to Editors (If I Had a Heart), or even long soundscapes like Sigur Ros, as in Sum It Up, the track that opens the album. Eclectic, they make this their best weapon, surely they are a band that you cannot predict where they will end up, so by pressing the skip button, you might find yourself catapulted into other realms of rock. Compared to many other works of the numerous bands born since 2002 that tread what has now become the barren land of indie rock, this can be considered a complete and varied work that refuses to want to hammer the same cliché in the 11 songs it consists of. Remarkable, for me a band to discover not only for the reasons mentioned above but also for the fact of constituting a white fly in the European musical landscape, if only for the fact of not being born in England.
