LA RECENSIONE

Having abandoned the verve of their early something-core, Sleeping With Sirens return to the scene with an album finally ready for the charts (but far from being sellouts) that will allow the group led by the charming Kellin Quinn to soar and become a rock band worthy of big stages.

Before talking about the album, though, let's clarify some critical points regarding the band I'm reviewing: yes, Kellin Quinn is the frontman with the most feminine voice the rock panorama has to offer us (it’s no coincidence that when I first heard "King For A Day" by Pierce The Veil, I thought that the featured artist was a girl), but it is precisely the uniqueness of his vocal timbre that is a strength (or a weakness, you decide) of Sleeping With Sirens. Secondly: if you expect an album filled with violent riffs, cascading breakdowns, and relentless screams punctuated by the usual melodic choruses (in other words, what bands like Pierce The Veil do), you are greatly mistaken. As previously stated, "Feel" is a rock album. Period.

It is a diverse work, for sure, but it always manages to stay on track. Indeed, as is customary, we find a lot of singalong choruses (the anthemic title track, "Low", "Free Now"), other more energetic and cheeky tracks ("Congratulations", "Deja Vu"), and a handful of features: besides the aforementioned "Congratulations" with Matty Mullins from Memphis May Fire (label mates of SWS), there is "Alone", featuring rapper MGK for a spectacular power ballad, while Fronz from Attila (a guy who tells it like it is) makes an appearance in "The Best There Ever Was", characterized by the screams of both Kellin Quinn and the aforementioned guest. The album concludes with the splendid "Satellites" (the best track on the album), which is set to become a fan favorite.

The frontman's good-guy look will surely be helpful in approaching large audiences, but if in 6/7 years we find Sleeping With Sirens headlining at Reading & Leeds, it will not be surprising. Much to the delight of the haters.
