Ok, after the embarrassing fiasco with Nirvana's unplugged, I'm dedicating myself to another great album of the 90s, "Seasons In The Abyss" by the infamous Slayer. Ok, I know, the other review was somewhat lousy, and I want to thank the first user who commented on it: I'll try not to make mistakes again; Meteora by Linkin Park was horribly written by my brother.
It's the early 90s, and grunge is starting to spread through the radio, MTV, and various other things. But this has nothing to do with the album in question: fast, violent, and effective; certainly not like "Reign In Blood" because it's clear that the sound that will accompany them in the following years is changing. It starts off strong with the warlike War Ensemble, right after there's the shortest song on the album, but still very beautiful: Blood Red, which maybe deals with the massacre of students in Tiananmen Square, or perhaps talks about dictator Manuel Noriega. It is followed by a beautiful song: Spirit In Black; riffs, solo, chorus, perfectly placed; the same can't be said for the following Expendable Youth, a bit too slow, in my opinion the song that distances itself the most from their style, but still with a great solo. It then moves on to a masterpiece: Dead Skin Mask, a gloomy composition that talks about the deeds of Ed Gein, alias (the butcher of Plainfield); I won't say more, just listen to it. Then there's Hallowed Point, fast and violent, but above all beautiful. It is followed by Skeletons Of Society which isn't a masterpiece of speed or power, but appreciable. Temptation and Born of Fire on the other hand are very beautiful, aggressive, and fast. The former is influenced by classic metal like Show No Mercy, and the latter was initially supposed to appear on "South Of Heaven." The last song is beautiful, and lacks nothing: it's melodic, fast, destructive, and more. Seasons In The Abyss. There's a version of this song with flutes.
Please, don't get the wrong idea about me. I also hear MTV. Bands like Nirvana, Slayer, and Alice In Chains I discovered on Rock TV and the internet. I swear, I never watch MTV.
THIS ALBUM IS A BLAST. Every song, every riff, exudes emotions from every pore.
In my opinion, Dave Lombardo is the best on earth, with his technique, creativity, and speed.
