THE REVIEW

The Slayer have always been one of the most discussed bands in the history of metal. Whether it's because of their album covers and lyrics (designed specifically to create controversy), or their extremely chaotic solos from the Hanneman/King duo (not very popular among sound purists). But when it comes to music, there's no question: the Californians are absolute masters. And while it's true that any hardcore bassist sounds like Araya, you can count on one hand the drummers who could challenge Lombardo for the title of greatest metal drummer of all time.

The album in question, "Reign In Blood," considered by practically everyone as the best of the four thrashers, has had an incredible influence on subsequent metal. ANY, and I repeat ANY metal band formed after '86 owes something (whether it's the musical style or the attitude) to Slayer. Doing a track-by-track review of this masterpiece would be absolutely pointless. I will limit myself to mentioning what I consider the best tracks: the opener "Angel Of Death," which talks about the notorious Dr. Mengele (famous for experiments conducted on Jews in Nazi concentration camps), is a programmatic manifesto: violence above all else. The apocalyptic "Raining Blood," which concludes with rain after a dissonant guitar solo (perhaps the most violent ever composed by the band), is one of the most famous metal songs of all time (particularly famous and frequently copied is the riff). But how can one underestimate "Necrophobic," the blasphemous "Altar Of Sacrifice" and "Jesus Saves," and "Postmortem," driven by a lethal riff?

Closing as usual with my favorite: "Reborn," which tells the story of a witch condemned to the stake, is a masterpiece of violence and speed too often cited and considered, and after listening to it, it's hard for the phrase "I will be reborn!!" to leave your ears. "Reign In Blood" is a milestone, an epochal album, any further discussion is useless. May it rain blood on all of you!

29min and 40 sec of speed, fury, and massive technical prowess!

'Angel of Death,' inspired by the 'achievements' of the SS doctor, Joseph Mengele, represents one of the cornerstones of Slayer’s discography.

"Angel Of Death kicks in: the riff is one of the most damnably granite and devastating in metal history, a pure frontal assault on the listener's ears."

"Reign in Blood is one of the most ingenious, most devastating, most powerful works ever conceived by the human mind."

Reign In Blood, or, the masterpiece of extreme music, the masterpiece of Slayer, the greatest manifesto of violence and rage that the human mind has ever conceived.

To be so-called metalheads and not own this album would be like not having one of those albums that encapsulate within themselves the very concept of 'Metal'.
