THE REVIEW

I have never been a fan of Skunk Anansie, nor of Skin's voice; I didn't like their approach at all, with songs that were technically well-crafted but lacked creativity and sound, in my opinion.

I was surprised by the release of "Fake Chemical State" because Skin, particularly thanks to her new band, managed to give a new life to her songs and her voice... a CD that starts off with a bang with "Alone in My Room", a track where the vocals don't even seem like Skin's... the album flows quickly, with strong Skunk-like oscillations and beautiful slow songs in which Skin's voice blends wonderfully...

Finally, it's worth highlighting the beauty of "Purple", which echoes the classic U2 soundscapes, and "Take Me On" played with 'Marlene Kuntz', with a vocal style reminiscent of Kim Gordon from 'Sonic Youth'.
