THE REVIEW

Surely a small step forward compared to its predecessor, in a career of doubts marked by Six Feet Under. All this makes us realize that there is no hope of reviving a group born from an idea proposed by Allen West of Obituary and Chris Barnes of Cannibal Corpse.

Even on this occasion, more tired than ever, they present the usual mishmash of tracks we've heard and re-heard: songs that do not deviate in the slightest from previous works, making all this potentially filler material that can be comfortably found in any other death metal album. An album with riffs that sound familiar, rather banal and un-innovative arrangements, enhanced by a touch of extra groove (just to mention "Bastard", which sounds like a hybrid between rock and death metal, with a chorus very similar to the infamous "Amerika the Brutal"). In favor of the American band, I can acknowledge that the production and sound are more refined compared to previous works, accompanied by careful attention to the lyrics and particularly in the selection of words, well-structured and calibrated to the genre in question. But that’s not enough to change the opinion and grant them a positive evaluation.

I give a mediocre score (2½/5) to this full-length and not to the charisma and quality of a band like the following that, live, manages to excite and energetically involve their fans, especially with the much-acclaimed "Amerika the Brutal": it's not news to us that Six Feet Under is one of the most requested bands at various festivals around the world. But for them to remain famous or at least be mentioned as an integral part of the genre's history, they should deliver a much more satisfying work than this "Death Rituals." Now that they have reached the heart of artistic maturity, they should begin to accomplish something good. We await the next work, without too many expectations.

Summary by Bot

The review assesses Six Feet Under's Death Rituals as a slight improvement over previous albums but ultimately mediocre. The album features familiar riffs, unoriginal arrangements, and predictable songwriting despite better production. The band’s live charisma contrasts with the uninspired studio output. It suggests the band needs to deliver more satisfying work to maintain relevance in the genre.
