THE REVIEW

THE DEBUT

She's back, beautiful, tough, real, now a lady, still dark, Siouxsie Sioux, coming from history, 30 years of career, between punk and dark, legend, star of the stage, icon of rock music, muse (see various Goldfrapp and Moloko), dazzled in turn by Shirley Bassey, cabaret personality, queen on a stage where time flows too fast and fashions erase the face of those who have so much behind.

Mantaray is a return, or at least it should seem so, Mantaray is smoke and images, observed through a misted glass, a film running backward, a journey into a fantastic ocean, where letting yourself be swallowed is the ultimate pleasure, letting yourself go to the reassuring voice and less dark atmospheres than before, but very familiar, a mystical thrill where the gothic and dark cabaret lets life transpire from the shadows.

50 years old and Siouxsie presents herself like a Marlene Dietrich, the Femme Fatale of music, more alive than ever she offers us her poisoned chalice, as if she were Cleopatra, defying expectations with an orchestrated and harmonic sound, still rock, that winks at trip-hop, creating a pleasant surprise, challenging all expectations, gifting songs, dense, capable of thrilling, or deceiving, the deception of a splendid siren.

Because Mantaray, ultimately is an honest, beautiful and sincere album, like a sunset on the sea at the end of September, and that's not little.

"5 stars, because it took me back twenty years, and that's not little!"

The album presents itself well from the colorful cover that shows us a glacial and beautiful Siouxsie, covered in insects and looking at us mockingly... pure '80s dark aesthetics!!!

Mantaray is one of those albums for which it is still worth spending your money!!!
