Simply Red are a British soul/pop group formed in Manchester in 1985, led by singer Mick Hucknall. They broke through with Holding Back the Years and reached massive European success with A New Flame and Stars, amid frequent lineup changes and Hucknall’s firm creative control.

Holding Back the Years topped the US Billboard Hot 100 in 1986. Stars became a huge European bestseller. Key producer Stewart Levine helmed Picture Book, A New Flame and Stars. Notable members include Fritz McIntyre (keyboards), Heitor T.P. (guitar) and Gota Yashiki (drums/programming).
