You know when your colleague arrives at the office in the morning, caught in a hormonal frenzy, humming the chorus of the latest heartthrob, declaring she's in love? Well, let's say I met Simone Barotti more or less in this way a few days ago. Yes, and I got to know him through 8 interminable hours of the chorus sung by my well-pitched subordinate who, in the throes of love delirium, finally shouted: "Uhhh, there's a video clip too." And so, after she invited us to watch it, with all of us girls at her desk, the projection and listening session began. The song, "Quando spegni la luce," is definitely better sung by Simone than Paola (we'll call her by a fictional name for privacy...) and this is the first thing I noticed. As for the rest, the video is set in a taxi driven by Barotti, ferrying various characters caught in relationship crises. Watch it, it's worth it! The song, however, was truly a pleasant revelation. It's electronic pop that, certainly, for someone like me who's been playing the piano for 98 years and loves played music, isn’t a masterpiece of musical skill. But overall, it's really well crafted. The tune sticks in your head quite violently (an earworm, as the youngsters say, right?) so much so that I've been humming it non-stop ever since. But the lyrics are very well written, and I discovered that there's a beautiful piano and voice version of the track. In conclusion, I feel compelled to tell you to listen to it. In the end, even in lesser-known artists, there’s something good to find.
