THE REVIEW

Contemporary Italian Female Music Scene, to define it with one adjective: rich. Indeed, the Italian female scene has been going through a very interesting era for many years now, where female authors and composers have made their first steps, adding to the already notable number of voices that have always characterized our local scene.

To the heirs of Alice and Giuni Russo, Simona Molinari has been adding herself for a few years now. A very interesting artist from Abruzzo with two LPs under her belt, but it is with this "Tua" from 2011 that she begins to make herself heard beyond the circle of jazz and swing lovers from which she originates. "Tua" is an incursion into the swing of the first half of the '900s revisited with a hint of unobtrusive electronics. The lead single, "In Cerca di Te", is a cover of an old song by Natalino Otto reimagined in a more modern style with the very successful collaboration of the pianist Peter Cincotti with whom Molinari shares the vocals. Cincotti also enriches the notable "Lettera" and the cover of one of his songs, "Always Watching You". Energized and inspired are "La Donna di Plastica" and "Forse" with the collaboration of Hong Kong jazz musician Danny Diaz, while the heartfelt closure is dedicated to the eternal difficulties of our country with "Tra la Lotta e la Resa/Povera Piccola Italia".

The delightful versions of "Tua" (an old Sanremo song) and "Maruzzella" complete an exciting and very enjoyable work, offering a glimpse of a surely interesting future for Simona. "Tua" enriches a musical vision between jazz, bossanova, and swing pleasantly explored in the previous "Croce e Delizia" of 2010, adding greater radio playability.
