The Silverstein. It was thought that after the excellent debut album of this fantastic band, they would either sink into the oblivion of commercialism or continue on their path. Fortunately, they chose the latter option.
The album presents itself as a mix of emotions and sorrows concentrated into 11 songs, 11 spectacular tracks that will get stuck in your head and never leave. Silverstein has the great ability to keep the listener engaged by offering unpredictable songs, some melodic and more in the style of Hawthorne Heights, others harder and screamed, in the style of FATA and Underoath, but the difference is that every song is truly beautiful. The album opens with "Your Sword vs My Dagger" and right from the intro of this track, you can tell that Silverstein is still the same as in When Broken Is Easily Fixed, followed by "Smile In Your Sleep", in my opinion, the best song of the entire album, where the drummer shines with truly exceptional technique, along with the singer whose voice transitions from melodic to screamed without any flaws. It continues with wonderful songs, including the eponymous "Discovering The Waterfront", leading up to track number 7, another successful and calm piece, "My Heroine" soaked in sadness and suffering.
In the end, of this new emocore wave that is trending these years, very few bands manage to make an impact and leave a mark in this environment, and I strongly believe that Silverstein with this album, the confirmation record if you will, have succeeded, and with flying colors.
"A mix of melancholy, hope, anger, and suffering, this is what you feel while listening to the platter."
"'Discovering The Waterfront' remains a small gem that shines with its own light, standing out like few others in today's crowded genre."
